South Lamar completed the 2015 season with a 7-5 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region six, the Stallions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. South Lamar reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Wadley by a score of 29-8. The Stallions improved in 2015 with their first winning season since 2008. The Stallions won as many games as in any season since 2008. The Stallions had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points. Since 2010, South Lamar has gone a combined 19-45. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 1A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, South Lamar has managed to compile a record of 144-137. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 1A and 173rd in the AHSAA. Shannon McGregory will not return to the sidelines at South Lamer after three seasons with a 15-19 record at the school. Clay Gilliam will take over the football program at South Lamar in 2016. He was an assistant at Northside, then was an assistant at South Lamar last year. This will be his first head coaching job. He is also the first head coach in South Lamar history to be a graduate of the school. The South Lamar Stallions will play in Class 1A region five during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Stallions remain in 1A but move from region six over to region five. The Stallions will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season. The Stallions open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Lamar County on Friday, August 19 at J.C. McAdams Field. Last year the Lamar County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 3A region four. The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a loss to Winfield by a score of 62-3. South Lamar and Lamar County have met a total of 39 times on the football field. The Stallions have a 20-19-0 record against the Bulldogs.
